You can discuss picture quality of MKV vs actual bluray all day long. Would imagine it's pretty much the same difference between mkv's and actual bluray HD audio. Impressive if I am reading that correctly. If the day comes that you decide that you do want 1080p, you're going to have to re-download your entire library.
